Simple, homemade pea guacamole
I have to admit that I used to love eating avocados, but my sustainable conscience kept reminding me to reduce my consumption a little. Not only because avocados use a lot of water, but also because they are not a local “fruit or vegetable” in Germany!? By the way, the correct answer is fruit! Botanically speaking, the avocado is a berry and is, therefore, a fruit!
While avocado guacamole will always have a special place in my heart and will certainly end up on my plate from time to time, it’s worth giving guacamole made from peas a try! Peas don’t just grow locally and don’t have to be shipped or flown halfway across the globe. They are also lower in calories and fat, rich in vegetable protein, high in fibre, and full of vital nutrients. Plus, with them, it’s not a gamble every time you buy and open them! Let’s go! 😉
Servings: 5 servings
- 450 g peas frozen
- 50 g mayonnaise vegan
- 1 lime juiced
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/2 chili optional
- 1 fistful chives fresh
- 80 ml pea water boiled
- 1 tbsp roasted onions optional
- salt and pepper
-
Bring approx. 1 l of water to the boil in a pot and add the frozen peas. Let them boil for 5 minutes, drain them, but keep about 80 ml (2 x 4 cl) of the water and rinse the peas with cold water.
-
Place the peas, vegan mayo, squeezed lime juice, garlic clove, chives, optional chili pepper, and the water from the cooked peas in a blender. Season with salt and pepper and blend until smooth. Garnish with fried onions and some chives. And as always: Enjoy to the fully fullest!

Comparison between peas 🫛 and avocados 🥑
I know you can’t compare apples and oranges, but let’s try it with peas and avocados. 😉
- Fewer calories and healthy fats
An outstanding advantage of pea guacamole is its lower calorie and fat content compared to traditional avocado guacamole. While avocados are incredibly nutritious, they are comparatively high in calories and healthy fats. Peas, on the other hand, are naturally lower in calories and fat. This makes pea guacamole a great choice for those who want to reduce their calorie and fat consumption but still want to eat a really tasty dip.
2. Rich in plant-based protein
Peas are a fantastic source of plant-based protein! Therefore, using them as the main ingredient for your guacamole can give your meal an extra protein boost. Protein is crucial for muscle building and maintenance. They also help you feel fuller for longer. For those on a vegan or vegetarian diet, pea guacamole can be a valuable source of protein.
3. Rich in fibre
Fibre is an important key element of a healthy diet and helps to aid digestion, regulate blood sugar levels and promote a feeling of satiety. Peas are a good source of fibre, and adding them to guacamole can increase the fibre content. This can promote your gut health and make you feel fuller.
4. Rich in nutrients
While avocados are known for their healthy monounsaturated fats, peas bring their own nutritional benefits. This is because they are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin A and folic acid. They also contain important minerals such as iron and potassium, which are essential for a balanced diet.
Try something different more often!
As you can see, you can make a huge difference by changing the main ingredient in guacamole. You can also save a lot of money, as peas are generally much cheaper than avocados. What’s more, you can usually get these little protein bombs very easily in organic quality and also regionally, saving you unnecessary transportation and making it the more sustainable option!
If you’re looking for more healthy recipes, you’ve come to the right place *here*! With this in mind: Enjoy to the fully fullest!
