Ready-made food often has a very bad reputation when it comes to a balanced diet. No wonder: classic ready meals are often rich in saturated fats, contain little protein, hardly any fiber and sometimes questionable ingredients. Especially as a vegetarian or vegan, you often look in vain for protein-rich ready meals that nourish your body and mind and also taste good.
But the good news is:
Ready-made food can also be different!
For example with the Lion’s share of protein-rich ready meals.

Protein-rich ready meals in a glass – what is lion’s share?
Lion’s share now offers a very large range of protein-rich ready meals in jars. The company has set itself the task of thinking differently about ready-made food. Instead of saturated fats, too little protein, little choice for vegans and a lack of fiber, Löwenteil is revolutionizing the market and contributing to a balanced diet with their organic dishes.
But what good is lion’s share? How good are the ready meals in jars really? In the last two years I have been able to do the various vegan ready meals I tested it extensively and was able to get a comprehensive picture of the different products.
I would like to share my brutally honest assessment based on various criteria with you today.
How good is lion’s share really? The protein-rich ready meals in the test 2024
Lion’s share is now incredibly popular. Influencers regularly show the protein-rich ready meals and present them as an indispensable part of a balanced diet.
But how good is lion’s share really?
I would like to answer this question with my test.
What good are the nutritional values of lion’s share?
Löwenteil advertises good nutritional values. And when I look at the nutritional value list of my organic ready-made meals, I can confirm that the nutritional values are convincing.
The following features stand out in detail:
- On average, a glass of lion’s share provides between 460 and 680 kilocalories.
- As a vegan and vegetarian protein source, the protein content is at least 30 to 42 grams per glass.
- On average, one glass of lion’s share covers more than half of your daily needs fiber.
- The products are rich in complex carbohydrates and low in sugar.
- The saturated fatty acid content is low. The glasses provide polyunsaturated fats as part of a balanced diet.
For me, the nutritional values look very consistent and roughly correspond to the requirements that I would have for a home-cooked dish.
How good are the ingredients?
When we look at normal ready-made food, not only the nutritional values but also the ingredients are repeatedly criticized. For example, fruit yoghurt often contains hardly any fruit and instead contains a lot of artificial flavor and sugar.
For my test, I of course also looked at Löwenteil’s list of ingredients and found that it was very short and understandable. The ingredients meet an organic standard and are largely based on legumes, vegetables, soy texture and real herbs and spices.
Even the quality of the fats used is taken into account – in addition to rapeseed oil, which is probably used for frying in some dishes due to its heat resistance and its omega-3 fatty acid content, cashew butter, pumpkin seeds and olive oil contribute to a balanced diet.
Which diet is lion’s share suitable for?
Löwenteil’s organic dishes are suitable for different diets. You will find a huge selection of vegan ready-made meals in the range and all meals are high protein.
But it’s not just vegans who love the variety of protein-rich ready meals. Depending on the variety, you can also eat these as part of the following diets:
- Low fat
- Slow/low carb
- High carb (e.g. as part of sports nutrition)
- Vegan
- Vegetarian
- Omnivore (“all-eaters”)
- Gluten free
- Whole food
- Balanced diet
Due to its high fiber content and good satiety, you can also consume lion’s share as part of a calorie-reduced diet, for example if you want to lose weight without being hungry.
Only for a ketogenic diet the choice is quite limited.
How do the organic dishes taste?
If you think that ready-made food tastes boring and offers no variety, then you are definitely wrong with Löwenteil.
Organic ready meals are no longer just a quick solution for everyday life, but rather a real enrichment for a delicious diet. With classics like Chili Vegano, vegan goulash and Mountain lentil stew The protein-rich ready meals definitely compete with our grandmas and grandpas. Now I no longer eat lion’s share not only because it’s practical and time-saving, but also because I’m not nearly as good at some recipes myself.
The large range means there is something for every taste and from numerous different cuisines. So it never gets boring.
How much variety is there in the protein-rich ready meals?
The Löwenteil range now includes a total of 15 ready-to-eat meals in jars. As part of my test, I have tested a total of 13 vegan (and therefore also vegetarian) varieties over the last few years. Only two of the organic ready meals contain meat and I haven’t tried them.
You can choose from these protein-rich ready meals:
- Vegan goulash
- Lentil Dal
- Peanut curry
- Chickpea curry
- Chili Vegano
- Piri Piri Stew
- Sweet Chilli
- Lentils à la Provence
- African Bowl
- Mountain lentil stew
- Tikka Masala Chunks
- Green Lime Curry Chunks
- Soy sesame chunks
- Italian bean stew (with meat)
- Chipotle Chili (with meat)
So far I actually like all the varieties from the Löwenteil range. If I “had to” give up one, it would be the Green Lime Curry, but that also has its appeal for those who like it tangy.
In addition, the lion’s share blog also offers a lot Recipe ideas with the dishes. So you get to know each meal again and again.
How easy is lion’s share to prepare?
Open the glass, put it on a plate or in a pot and warm it up on the stove or in the microwave for three minutes – done. Preparing lion’s share is that easy.
If you’re in a hurry, you can even eat the dishes cold. And if you want to take a little more time to cook, you can try one of the exciting recipe ideas with the organic ready-made meals.
Is lion’s share expensive?
The cost of lion’s share is a point of criticism that I have encountered several times. With €7.99 per meal as the basic price, one of the organic ready-made meals naturally exceeds the rate that is included in the daily meal budget for citizens’ money.
Of course, you have to take this point seriously and admit that it is not practical, for example, to present a family of six with citizen’s money with a lunch that consists of one glass of lion’s share per person.
But you can easily make two portions out of one glass of lion’s share if you eat it with a side dish. For example, you can choose from one Chili Mac & Cheese Pasta Prepare a dish for a few euros per person that still provides great nutritional values, lots of protein and enough fiber. A quarter glass of Sweet Chili can be used One pot dish with sweet chili gnocchi prepare and save some money.
Despite everything, you should of course not ignore the quality and organic ingredients of the protein-rich ready meals and admit that they have their price.
In my opinion, with this unbeatable organic quality, good taste and top nutritional values, the cost per glass is absolutely justified and not too expensive at all.

Conclusion – Löwenteil’s dishes in the 2024 test
Despite my initial skepticism, I was very impressed with the ready-to-eat meal in a glass from Löwenteil. I can still remember my first test very well. Back then, I didn’t actually “want” to like lion’s share because I wanted to remain critical of ready meals.
But “unfortunately” I have now become so addicted to the dishes that they come to my table several times a week and I no longer really know how I actually ate a balanced diet. I probably spent a lot more time in the kitchen back then and compromised more on taste.
But it’s just a harmonious picture:
- The good nutritional values.
- The high protein content.
- Best taste & high level of variety.
- Big time savings.
- Lots of fiber.
- Good organic ingredients.
- Optimal composition for me as an athlete.
By the way, my personal favorite dishes from Löwenteil are:
