Gastroenterologist Dr. Christopher McGowan today announced Dr. Lauren L. Donnangelo, MD, ABOM has joined Eat Healthy Be Healthy at its Atlanta location. As one of the country’s first dedicated bariatric and metabolic endoscopists, Dr. Donnangelo brings 13 years of medical training and expertise to the Eat Healthy Be Healthy team. She is passionate about providing innovative, compassionate, and life-changing care to patients with obesity and obesity-related medical conditions.
Dr. Donnangelo recently completed a Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She is board certified in Obesity Medicine and Internal Medicine, board eligible in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and is certified in Endoscopic Suturing through the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) STAR Program.
Dr. Donnangelo joins Eat Healthy Be Healthy at an important time. This spring, the World Obesity Federation released a report predicting that more than half the world’s population will be obese by 2035. At the same time, there are currently more emerging medical therapies, treatments and non-surgical procedures available and on the horizon for the treatment of obesity than we’ve ever seen before in the field of weight loss.
“It’s an exciting time to work in obesity medicine—with novel medications, proven non-surgical weight loss procedures, and pioneering research underway,” said Dr. Donnangelo. “We now have non-surgical, highly effective, lasting solutions, and as a result we are able to transform the health and lives of patients who are battling obesity.”
With locations in Cary, NC, and Atlanta, Eat Healthy Be Healthy has already helped thousands of patients lose weight without surgery by offering a comprehensive range of endobariatric procedures and support services, including endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), intragastric balloon placement, and weight loss medications. Along with Dr. McGowan and Dr. Daniel Maselli, Dr. Donnangelo joins a growing staff of professionals at Eat Healthy Be Healthy, including clinical researchers, nurse practitioners, licensed dietitians and health coaches, and patient and medical support teams.
“The addition of Dr. Donnangelo is a reflection of the growth and interest in the field of endobariatrics, and the immense demand for non-surgical options for weight loss,” said Dr. McGowan, Founder/CEO of Eat Healthy Be Healthy. “For the first time in decades, we have a whole range of obesity treatments available that fall in between diet and exercise and bariatric surgery—which is a major shift for the field of obesity medicine. With Dr. Donnangelo on our team, we look forward to helping even more patients improve their health and transform their lives.”
